Finally! A use for all my old 9v batteries. My stash is justified after all these years.

A great video - at last something useful on youtube! But I have a question - what thickness can you safely weld? E.g. can you weld two 10 mm thick steel plates together?
You are going to want to bevel the edges about 10cm and do 7 million passes

Yeah, I can’t wait to do this. I’ve been needing to weld two razor blades together and couldn’t figure out how.
This could conceivably be used to “weld” conducting strips to rechargeable batteries in order to wire up custom cells. Otherwise, you could build a cell spot welder from a used microwave transformer.

Little do people know this is how rivets on the hulls of old battleships were welded. They just used bigger pencils.
I think you'll find they were red hot rivets that were hamerd by hand or nematic hamers.

You cannot silver solder with a soldering iron.
@@astrecks When answering pedantic with pedantic it's important to make sure you're correct. As it is in this case, -2 points since you CAN silver solder with a soldering iron (going by the definition of what silver soldering is). I think what you meant was "you can't solder silver with a soldering iron". If so, you would have been correct as you need higher temps achievable by torch.
Brilliant. Thank you. Would the pencil spot weld small silver pieces? And would I need to flux - noted you didn't add flux for the thin steel.
Please don't use a knife in this way (cutting towards you) likely to slice your fingers. Very irresponsible of the creator to post this

You actually have a carbon arc which is used to remove or gouge out carbon steel. Normally includes compressed air directed at the metal.

So, if I want to solder 18650 elements together using magnesium tape, will it work as a spot welding machine?
I don't think you can weld two different metals together like this, plus magnesium is flammable so you might ignite it.
Now I know what to do with my used razor blades....

So basically you made a electrode. I used to gap weld for military contractor. 750 voltage for silver and gold ribbons for electronic parts, gold , silver plated substrates. Gap weld machines made in Japan.
