  • Nothing to do with welding, but an interesting way to make a soldering iron!

    • Yeah this must be a joke... Finding that part is more work/time/money than buying a cheap soldering iron and that pencil will burn up in no time. You'll be holding hot graphite.... If that works at all...

  • I was just at Harbor Freight looking for soldering supplies, and they were in the welding area. So this seems to be a thing people find synonymous.

  • This is rather dangerous and risks an electrical fire at the usb adapter. Buy a cheap soldering iron ...it will work safely.

  • I'm sorry. Bull? How is the copper getting that hot when the vastly thinner USB wires aren't melting? Forgive me if this is legit, but thin wire heats up faster so I'm really doubting this.

    @southy3667@southy366726 күн бұрын
    • Graphite had a high resistance, and therefore, it creates a lot of heat.

      @FrazierDanger@FrazierDanger26 күн бұрын
    • @@FrazierDanger ok, and that heat conducts down the copper and melts the solder. Why isn't that heat conducting down the wires and melting the insulation? Those power supplies are usually 5v ~2a, so you have around 10W max. Low quality soldering irons are 70W and don't melt solder that well. You can also burn wood with soldering iron tips, so if the graphite is hot enough to melt solder why isn't the pencil smoldering?

      @southy3667@southy366726 күн бұрын
    • @@southy3667I agree. It does smolder some when he plugs it in. Tht has to be from wires and insulation and who knows he may have built more than 1 unit for video. Deff dangerous. Buy soldering iron at harbor freight

      @TheDhagy@TheDhagy26 күн бұрын
    • It just amazes me that the pencil lead doesn't just break, especially when you tighten a screw down on it, any time I sharpen a pencil with a knife the lead ,graphite always breaks.

      @jimduffy1967@jimduffy196725 күн бұрын
    • @@FrazierDanger copper has a high thermal conductivity and hence conducts a lot of heat. Which means the USB wires will heat up a lot which was the point they were making, why can the tip reach those temperatures but the USB wires aren't?

  • This channel has some of the absolute dumbest ideas I've ever seen. I have 3 trade qualifications and a degree in mechatronic engineering, if someone showed me this when I was 9-10 years old, theres a good chance I would have ended in elementary school when I burnt my parents house down. Whoever is putting this garbage out there should be sued in to bankruptcy.
