There are two angles on a correctly sharpened chisel. Grinding angle and honing or sharpening angle. This video is showing how to sharpen a chisel incorrectly.
Didn't know carpenters were putting a secondary bevel on chisels. I now stand informed. Thank you.
There is already a tool to do just that, and its decades old.
Get a honing guide,
Just buy a chisel guide
Good Job Many people will appreciate this
No
And every chisel needs its own block …buy a honing guide or practice freehand ..
Or spend a couple of quid on a honing guide. Even a cheap one will give better results for all your chisels
This video is for people with lots of scrap wood and no fireplace ! But ya , don't reinvent something that's readily available and will give superior results !
Since I've never run across a honing guide in my entire life I'll call this a good idea.
Should have shown a leather strap and polish as well. Especially handy for keeping the edge when ik use. Use it after every few minutes. Nice simple video tho
All that sanding! For what ?
Great tip!!
That whetstone has seen better days
As long as it's flat it should be fine. Are you claiming that it isn't flat?
A chisel has 2 angles a primary and secondary angle the same as a planner blade.😂
Planer blade, maybe?
Love the channel for the information and its goofiness
Just sharpen it normally lmao
Like wise..lol. put a bumper on the bumper to protect the bumper...😅
Been on the market for decades. Reinventing the wheel!
Decades!!!!
Negative Nancy, He made it for 50 cents
Genial 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Literally watched wallybois do this a week ago

Temo che il legno intasi la pietra di affilatura.
Making a guide is hardly an invention , but for those who cant frree hand its good . My honeing guide came in a set with a wetstone many years ago
Hi bro work on a big project
Chetney Pock O' Pea is watching and breathing heavily.
Cool😮
💡 XLNT 💡 IDEA 💡 !!
Nice idea
Great video!!!
,a cool video keep up the great content.. Thank you……
you are doing well
There's a reason they call that plate on a grinding wheel a tool rest that's adjustable you need to go out and buy one and read the directions it also comes with a water area to make the wheel wet for grinding tools for lays chisels Etc you're trying to reinvent the wheel
Yeah and you end up witha cupped chisel end using that
This is really informative and useful. Thank you for this amazing video./-strong/-heart:>:o:-((:-h
👍😀
Exellent job Inventor 101,good night👋🏻🌃
2:45 he cheking the alignment by closing one eye.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤
at what degree of inclination?
He matched the factory angle.
OK nice to know that 🙄🙄🙄🙄
So much work to make a honing guide that you can buy for a couple of quid.... 😢. Imagine this guy's toolbox, full of amateur inventions like a video diskwithwet n dry glued to it and put in an angle grinder .. would you hire him as acarpenter looking at his tools,?
The chisel cutting edge should be at a different angle.
😮
Kind of crude…. No… definitely crude.
The two angles to use are 45 and 60 degrees 😊😊
This makes no sense,,,, a good wood worker can sharpen chisels whitout this,,, and this won't allow to be use in different angles,,,, there are very affordable chisel sharpener guide.
Great
One
Only prob is the wood will clog up the stone
What rubbish, use a sharpening guide, you would have to move the screws for different chisels, and where is the second angle? You have invented nothing.
5 seconds on a bench grinder or all day making a honing guide. 🙄
😢
That’s a lot of unnecessary work a true carpenter can sharpen a chisel just using a whet stone my FIL showed me how to sharpen mine
True. But some of us aren't "true" carpenters (that's me). So something this simple is a great help.
@@christianmirabal5389Exactly. Thank you

Building the jig is some extra work, you're right. But once it's built, sharpening chisels will be a breeze. You will eventually save way more time than it took to build it.

The cutting face will be concave, from the shape of your grinding wheel, after you've put it on the grinder, when you sharpen it on your oil stone, less than 8mm of your cutting edge will contact the stone. When you think it's sharp enough, you now must remove the burr, you place your chisel flat on the face of the stone, an stroke full length of the stone, at least 12 times, it's crucial the blade stays dead flat to the face of the stone, what your doing is removing the burr, you'll always get burr on the cutting edge when you sharpening chisels ,this is how you remove it... Your chisel is now at its sharpest.. I'm kidding, you can stropp that chisel sames a cutthroat razor, now it's razor sharp you can shave with it ..
He used flat whetstones, so what are you even talking about? Where do you see a grinding wheel? The chisel was perfectly flush with the flat stone, I saw it perfectly.
@@ganjalfcreamcorn8438 I'm telling you how to sharpen a chisel, razor sharp, an you can shave with it ... That's how you sharpen a chisel. Take it from someone who fits door locks, for 30yrs.
I wish I didn't see this stupidity and unnecessary work for sharpening a chisel😤😤

That is a good way for some. Appreciate. Since my situation doesn’t include a shop, I use items I always have, with multiple uses - a sanding sponge and strop on my leather belt. Razor sharp 🫵👍
